Dutch ace seeks double delight
Defending champion Michael van Gerwen is eager to continue his winning ways as he prepares to face Peter Wright in Week 2 of the Premier League Darts season.
Van Gerwen opened his campaign with a fluent 7-2 defeat of reigning PDC world champion Rob Cross and the Dutchman is determined to try and make it two wins out of two when he takes to the stage in Cardiff.
Meanwhile, Wright began his Premier League season with a 6-6 draw with debutant Gerwyn Price.
A confident Van Gerwen told the official PDC website: "It's been a good start for me and I can build on this. I'm feeling confident and playing well, so I have to focus on playing Peter and make sure I prepare properly.
"This is a new week and I want to play better than I did in Dublin, but the most important thing is getting the two points."
Van Gerwen has a formidable record in the Premier League, having reached the final in each of the last five seasons, being crowned champion in 2013, 2016 and 2017.
Mighty Mike lost out 10-6 to compatriot Raymond van Barneveld in 2014 and 12 months later was beaten 11-7 by Gary Anderson.
He can be backed at 1/1 to defeat Wright on Thursday evening and is 7/2 to do so by a 7-4 scoreline, with Van Gerwen 2/7 to win the first leg of the match.
