Mighty Mike continues treble bid
Michael van Gerwen returns to the oche this evening at the Alexandra Palace where the Dutchman continues his bid for a third PDC World Championship.
The defending champion faces number 16 seed Gerwyn Price where the winner will be rewarded with a place in the quarter-final of the tournament.
Mighty Mike has the two highest averages of the competition so far as he finished with an average of 108.65 in his 4-0 whitewash of James Wilson in the second round, while in his opening contest it was 106.17 during his 3-1 victory against Christian Kist.
Van Gerwen has won six major titles this season with the PDC as the world number one has dominated the circuit once again.
His most recent success came in the Players Championship Finals where he got the better of Jonny Clayton 11-2 in the final.
The Dutchman is 8/15 to add the world title to his collection in the 2017/18 campaign, while he can be backed at 1/33 to defeat Price.
Number two seed Peter Wright is also back on the stage, as the Scot faces Jamie Lewis in what is a repeat of their meeting at this stage of the tournament 12 months ago. Snakebite was too strong for the Welshman in 2016, as he blew the unseeded player away 4-0.
It has been a difficult couple of months for Wright as he was hospitalised in November with Gallstones, so has not had the best preparation for the World Championship.
The UK Open winner returned to the oche before Christmas where he beat Diogo Portela 3-1 in the first round.
Snakebite has had the biggest season of his career with his first major title arriving back in March.
The world number two is 1212/1 to lift the title on January 1st, where he will be hoping to go one better than in 2014 when he finished as runner-up.
