Giggs planning for Bale absence

Wales head coach Ryan Giggs says it is highly unlikely that Gareth Bale will be able to feature in the Nations League clash with the Republic of Ireland on Tuesday evening.

The Real Madrid forward was absent as the hosts were crushed 4-1 by Spain in a friendly international on Thursday, with Bale reported to be suffering from 'muscle fatigue'.

In football you have to do the basics right, even if you come up against an average team.

And Giggs is expecting to have to plan for the game in Dublin without his star performer.

He told reporters after a difficult evening at the Principality Stadium: "It is very unlikely at this point.

"It's nothing serious but obviously the closer we get to the game, we have to make a decision and at the moment it is unlikely."

Meanwhile, Giggs warned his side that they simply have to do the basics right if they want to compete with top-class teams like Spain, adding: "We came up against a very good team.

"They are comfortable on the ball and when they lost it they got it back quickly - all the things we knew.

"The disappointing thing for me was not doing the basics. In football you have to do the basics right, even if you come up against an average team.

"But when you come up against a really good team and don't do the basics right, you're in trouble."

Wales can be backed at 12122.00 to win their Nations League group, with Denmark 1.00 and the Republic of Ireland 12122.00.
