Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola says Leroy Sane is close to a return to action but is unlikely to be available for next week's Champions League last-16 first leg with Basel.
The Germany international has made a rapid recovery from the ankle ligament damage he suffered against Cardiff City in the FA Cup in January.
The 22-year-old is back doing some light training and the Citizens medical staff were hopeful he could make the trip to Switzerland next week, a game the visitors are 1.33 to win.
Basel are 11.00 and the draw is 5.50.
Guardiola says Sane now looks unlikely to feature but hopes the winger could play some part in City’s FA Cup fifth round tie against Wigan on 19th February.
Sane joins Gabriel Jesus and David Silva in the treatment room but there is better news on John Stones after he was passed fit for Saturday's clash with Leicester.
Stones' return comes after Guardiola gave his players a few days off this week and he hopes that will benefit them ahead of a busy run of fixtures.
"We had a lot of games since August and just one midweek off, we needed [a rest]," said Guardiola.
"We made three good training sessions and then we come back. We love to play football but when you play every three days, sometimes a break is good for everybody because you come back strong.
"We have tomorrow [Saturday], three days later Champions League, then five days, and then five days for the League Cup final.
"We will see day by day how the players feel. Some players are not fit. Others will come back.
"I would like to rest Sergio Aguero but he's the only striker we have. He is making a huge effort and doing really well."
City are 1.25 to come out on top against Leicester, who are 15.00, while the draw is 6.50.
