Williams offers duo backing
Williams team boss Claire Williams says she is confident the team's young drivers Lance Stroll and Sergey Sirotkin will shine this season.
Canadian Stroll and Russian rookie Sirotkin have been issued seats for the 2018 campaign but some have questioned the lack of F1 experience between the pair.
Stroll at 19 became the youngest man in history to score a podium finish and qualify on the front row last year but for much of the campaign he played second fiddle to the now-retired Felipe Massa.
Despite Sirotkin getting set for his first season in F1, Williams feels he and Stroll, who are financially well backed, have the ability to bring points to the team in 2018.
"If we didn't think they would do the job, we wouldn't put them in the car," she said.
Williams added: "Our decision-making process is so much more complex than just deciding to put a driver into the race seat because they have some cash.
"Yes, we are an independent team, and yes, sponsorship is really difficult to come by these days... so clearly if a driver has some financial backing then that is an added bonus, but it's not the foundation for a decision-making process at Williams."
Meanwhile in the Red Bull camp Daniel Ricciardo is 4001.00 to win the world Drivers' Championship this season, while Max Verstappen is 2001.00 to finish top of the pile in 2018.
