Success for Prentice at Gloucester
Five-year-old Major Reality looks the horse to beat in the $50,000 Empress Stakes (2536m) on 24th February.
She showed her form when scoring a hard-fought win for trainer-reinsman Justin Prentice at Gloucester Park.
Major Reality went off as hot favourite in the Westral Venetian and Honeycomb Blinds Pace (2130m), and went on to beat El Machine by a neck after facing the breeze, while Bronze Seeker finished a close third.
"It was a game run by Major Reality," Prentice said after the race. "She should be hard to beat in the Empress.
"The mare is holding peak form and has never looked better."
Bought in New Zealand for $32,000 as a yearling, Major Reality has won 19 races from 32 starts and earned $366,000.
Elsewhere, The Mike Reed-trained Foxy Dame notched an upset win when she finished fast on the outside in the Vertical and Panel Blinds Pace (2536m).
Foxy Dame, a huge outsider, beat the odds-on favourite American Boy, who faced the breeze, by 1.75m.
"I was confident a fair way from home we could cause a boilover," Foxy Dame's reinsman Shannon Suvaljko said. "The fast pace suited her and we were waiting back, ready to strike."
