Tough draw for Gotta React
Scott Ewen is confident Gotta React can overcome a tricky barrier draw when he takes to the track at Globe Derby on Saturday night.
Gotta React will begin from the outside of the back line in the Kindergarten Stake prelude, but Ewen's confidence has not been dented.
That is quite understandable considering the freshman recently scored upon debut at Kilmore and will be looking to make it back-to-back wins on Saturday.
"It's not going to be easy, but he is not out of his league either," Ewen said. "I've got no doubt he can round them up as long as he avoids traffic.
"I just finished working him and he went terrific. He is ready to run a good race."
Although bred in South Australia, Gotta React was sent to Leigh Miles in Victoria to be broken in, with Ewen stating the road trip was an integral part of the gelding's education.
"The float trip over and back is the best thing for them when they are young as it really settles them," Ewen said. "Plus Leigh does a top job with them.
"From the beginning Leigh said we had a nice little horse on our hands and so far that's how it's turning out.
"He has plenty of raw ability and high speed, which is good, so hopefully he can win a few along the way."
Following this weekend's engagement, the son of Auckland Reactor will contest the Kindergarten Final before being aimed at the Nursery and possibly a Vicbred heat.
