Fox Norton ready for Tingle test
Fox Norton is ready to accept the challenge should Douvan show up in Saturday's Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown Park.
The Colin Tizzard-trained Fox Norton, runner-up in the Queen Mother Champion Chase at Cheltenham in March, featured amongst a cast of 11 entries for the two-mile Grade One contest on Monday.
The Tingle Creek is a seasonal highlight and Joe Tizzard, assistant trainer to his father at their Dorset base, says the race has been earmarked for 1.61 chance Fox Norton since he was agonisingly denied by front-running Special Tiara at Cheltenham in March.
Fox Norton comfortably reversed that form with Henry De Bromhead's runner back in the Cotswolds last month as he won the Shloer Chase for the second year running and he is now spot on for his big day at Sandown.
Douvan, the odds-on favourite when he lost his unbeaten record in the Champion Chase, is down to have his first outing since, and Fox Norton won't be put off if he turns up on Saturday.
"The Tingle Creek has been the plan for Fox Norton since the end of last season," Joe Tizzard said. "We had a lovely run on his reappearance at Cheltenham, when he was mightily impressive.
"It will be interesting to see if Douvan comes over or not but we are looking forward to the challenge.
"Bryan Cooper will be riding him again. Fox Norton will do a piece of work (on Tuesday) and then he will build up into Saturday's race."
Douvan trades at 1000.00 to win the Tingle Creek, a race trainer Willie Mullins won 12 months ago with the enigmatic Un De Sceaux, who was also entered on Monday and is 1000.00 to retain his crown.
Paul Nicholls has claimed the Tingle Creek on a record nine occasions and has entered Politologue and San Benedeto, first and second last month in the Haldon Gold Cup.
Special Tiara also featured alongside Ar Mad, Charbel, Ordinary World, Sir Valentino and Top Gamble in the Tingle Creek line-up.
