Under The Stars set for Guineas challenge
James Tate is readying Group 3 Keeneland Stakes winner Under The Stars for an ambitious tilt at the QIPCO 1,000 Guineas.
The three-time winner, who is owned by Saeed Manana, was last seen winning the 28-runner £150,000 sales race at Newmarket in October and seems to handle the undulations very well.
Currently available at 26.00 for the first fillies' Classic of the season, which will be run on Sunday, June 7, Under The Stars have been pleasing Tate at home but the trainer would prefer to see rain in the forecast.
He said: “She’s fit and well – but then she has been fit and well since about April I think! She’s ready for the Guineas and we hope she runs a good race.
“We wouldn’t mind a drop of rain before then, but there doesn’t look to be much in the forecast.”
However, Under The Stars has form on quick ground with her debut success coming on a good to firm track at Ripon in July last year.
The one to beat in the 1,000 Guineas is expected to be the Charlie Hills-trained Quadrilateral, who is looking to maintain her unbeaten record with another famous Newmarket victory for owner Khalid Abdullah.
Quadrilateral is 3.75 to win the fillies' Classic.
