Yanworth ready for Wincanton date
Alan King has confirmed that Yanworth is ready to have his final pre-Cheltenham outing in Saturday's Kingwell Hurdle at Wincanton.
Second in last season's Neptune Novices' Hurdle behind Yorkhill, Yanworth is well on track to be one of the leading contenders for next month's Champion Hurdle back at Prestbury Park.
A tweaked muscle on his hind quarters had ruled him out of the Contenders Hurdle at Sandown earlier this month but King has issued a positive update on his well-being.
"We worked Yanworth this morning on the grass and it's all systems go for Saturday," said the Barbury Castle handler.
Yanworth is a 2/1 chance to win the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham on 14th March and his trainer is pleased that Wincanton have pushed back the start time of the Kingwell in order to ensure runners get fresh ground.
"We really appreciated that Barry Johnson (Wincanton's clerk of the course) brought forward the Kingwell Hurdle to 2.45pm to provide these Champion Hurdle contenders with first dibs of the hurdle track," he added.
Yanworth is set to be joined at Wincanton by last years' winner Rayvin Black for trainer Oliver Sherwood while champion trainer Paul Nicholls has got Irving and Capitaine amongst a potential field of ten.
The picture for the Champion Hurdle has been ever-changing in recent weeks as previous winners Faugheen and Annie Power have been ruled out of contention by their trainer Willie Mullins.
Another former winner, Jezki, is rated 555/1 to win for trainer Jessica Harrington while Nicky Henderson's Buveur D'Air, third in the Supreme a year ago, is a 5/1 chance.
