Cleary interested in Moylan reunion
Wests Tigers are ready to swoop for Panthers captain Matt Moylan.
Tigers coach Ivan Cleary, who is set to take charge of a major rebuild at the joint venture club in the off-season, has indicated he wants Moylan.
The 25-year-old, who Penrith insist will see out his four-year deal, will miss the finals series for personal reasons.
There's speculation the former Australia international is unhappy at the club, and former Panthers coach Cleary didn't deny his interest when he was asked about the possibility of reuniting with Moylan at Concord.
Would I be interested? Yes. I rate him as a player and a person.Ivan Cleary
"My understanding is he wants to stay and has never stated he wants to leave," said Cleary of the five-eighth.
"But would I be interested? Yes. I rate him as a player and a person. [But] that hasn't happened yet and it's speculation."
Cleary was Moylan's first coach at NRL level when the player broke through in 2013 at Penrith, and he says the pair have remained close.
"I find him a terrific kid, great player, well-known local junior and [he] made an immediate impact," said the coach. "I'm not privy to all the information but hope it works out well for Matt because I've got a lot of time for him."
Wests Tigers are losing fullback James Tedesco in the off-season, but there will be plenty of arrivals.
Josh Reynolds, Russell Packer, Ben Matulino and Chris McQueen will add a new dimension to the side's attack, while veteran Benji Marshall is returning to the club from Brisbane.
Meanwhile, Penrith are 7/5 to win their elimination final against the Sea Eagles, who are 3/5.
The Panthers are 1/1 with a six-point start.
