Green praises Cowboys leaders
Coach Paul Green has hailed North Queensland's senior players for holding the team together during a difficult season.
The Cowboys aim to contiue their campaign by beating reigning premiers Cronulla at Allianz Stadium on Sunday.
They only just made it into the top eight by virtue of the Dragons losing their final game of the season, but Green feels they've deserved their spot for being so resolute when the chips were down.
I think it's a credit to those guys, I wouldn't say they're young guys, but they're certainly not veterans yet, it's a credit to those guys that have lead the team for us this year.Paul Green
The Cowboys lost both co-captains Johnathan Thurston and Matt Scott to season-ending injuries, putting pressure on the other senior players in the side to step up.
Jason Taumalolo has led by example this year, and Green is pleased with how he, and other players, have performed.
"He's probably one of a number of players that have had to step up and show some leadership not just on the field but off the field as well," said the coach.
"I think it's a credit to those guys, I wouldn't say they're young guys, but they're certainly not veterans yet, it's a credit to those guys that have lead the team for us this year.
"There's one guy that runs out with a 'C' next to his name each week but there's a number of leaders within the group and Jason is one of those. Michael Morgan is another one, Scott Bolton is another one so those guys deserve a huge wrap and have contributed enormously to where we are."
North Queensland lost both their regular season clashes with the Sharks, and finished four points behind them in the final standings.
The Cowboys are 47/20 to beat Cronulla, who are 7/20.
North Queensland are 1/1 with an eight-point start.
