Holmes tips Tigers to bounce back

Castleford Tigers forward Oliver Holmes is backing his side to bounce back from the heavy defeat they suffered at the hands of St Helens in round one.

Last year's League Leaders Shield winners and Super League Grand Finalists were heavily beaten 46-6 by Saints last Friday, but Holmes believes that the defeat could be a positive for the Tigers in long term.

"We've been able to claw our way back into games and we pride ourselves on a never-say-die attitude. For a game to get away from us like it did was a bit disappointing and worrying, but we have addressed everything," said Holmes, ahead of Sunday's home match against Widnes Vikings.

"We could maybe turn this into a positive four or five weeks down the line, look back at this to say we probably needed it. It has been a rude awakening and it could turn into a positive if we go out and put things right and it doesn't happen to us again.

"We'd rather be starting the season with a victory," Holmes added, "but it's better it happening at the start of the season than halfway through, or towards the back end, when it's most important. But we have to take the lessons."

Saints have been tipped by many to win the Grand Final in 2018. They will aim to continue their positive start to the season when they travel to face Catalans Dragons on Saturday.

St HelensĀ  are 1213.00 to win the Grand Final this season, with Wigan Warriors 1.44 and Cas 4.33.
