McDermott hails Rhinos resurgence
Leeds Rhinos head coach Brian McDermott hailed his side's Super League Grand Final victory over the Castleford Tigers as the 'best win ever'.
The Tigers went into the Old Trafford showpiece as favourites to top off a superb season with another victory, however, the Rhinos emerged as comprehensive 24-6 winners to secure a seventh title in 11 years.
Never did I dream in my wildest dreams that we'd get to Old Trafford, never mind win it.Brian McDermott
And McDermott was ecstatic at the turnaround which has taken place at Headingley, with the Rhinos having had to battle for Super League survival last season after missing out on the Super 8s altogether.
He told Sky Sports: "That's the final chapter of the book. For us to make the Grand Final is a great story and we've just capped off the final chapter.
"I have been saying to my players all week that you don't get many chances to have moments in life that stand out where every man, jack and his dog up the country will think 'they can't go and win the Grand Final can they? Not from where they were'.
"We've done it. Never did I dream in my wildest dreams that we'd get to Old Trafford, never mind win it. Now look at us - it's the best win ever."
The victory was made even sweeter by it being the last game for the club for both Rob Burrow and Danny McGuire, with the latter scoring two tries to be named man of the match and claim the Harry Sunderland Trophy.
The Rhinos are 8.00 to lift the Challenge Cup in 2018, with the Tigers priced at 1213.00 and St Helens available at 1213.00.
