Moon ready to make 2018 bow
Leeds Rhinos half-back Joel Moon says he's relishing making his first appearance of the year, as the club prepares to face Castleford Tigers in a pre-season friendly.
Moon was rested for the Boxing Day fixture against Wakefield but is likely to feature against last year's Grand Final opponents.
"I've been here for a while now so it doesn't take long to get back into the routine. I haven't played for a while, so I am feeling a bit edgy, but I am looking forward to it. It'll be a good hit-out against Cas," said Moon, who has been handed the number six shirt in the 2018 squad, having originally joined the club as a centre.
"I feel like a stand-off now; I am learning and growing. At training, I am learning a lot of stuff, and I have still got heaps to go, but I am feeling more comfortable there and with the team as well, so it's good."
Moon is likely to partner new signing Richie Myler in the half-back positions, following the latter's arrival from Catalans Dragons.
And Moon says he is relishing the opportunity to further his skillset alongside another specialist scrum-half.
"That's what we needed," he said.
"I am learning off him, like I did with Danny McGuire, and it's going to be good for the team. He has settled in really well and he's a good bloke. The boys love him and he's looking forward to the year as well.
Leeds start the new campaign with a trip to face Warrington Wolves on Thursday 1st February.
The Rhinos are 2.20 to open the season with a win at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, with the Wire 1.66.
Leeds are 6.50 to win this year's Super League Grand Final.
