Robins switch excites McGuire
New Hull KR signing Danny McGuire believes the Robins are capable of springing some surprises during the months ahead.
The Robins secured an immediate return to Super League following their relegation at the end of 2016, and Leeds Rhinos veteran McGuire is one of the new arrivals tasked with steering the club to safety this season.
McGuire believes that the depth of experience in the Hull KR squad will help ensure they make a smooth transition back to the top level.
"We have some players who have been around, like Nick Scruton, Shaun Lunt and Lee Jewitt, mixed with some young talent. If anyone under-estimates us we'll show teams what we can do. We can definitely surprise a few people this season," said McGuire, who says he's eager to learn under the tutelage of head coach Tim Sheens.
"I've enjoyed it. As a player you hang on his every word as everything he says is usually right. Looking a few years down the line, if I ever did want to go into coaching, working alongside someone like Tim is obviously brilliant for my development."
McGuire added that he's settled in quickly at his new club following a decorated career with Leeds, 6.50 to win the Grand Final this season.
"I knew a few of the lads that I'd played with at Leeds and some others I'd played against," he added. "But you still have to earn everyone's trust and respect. That's something I've been trying to do in these first few months over here."
Hull KR face Wakefield Trinity in their first match of the new season on Friday 2nd February and are 1.80 to win the game with a 1.5-point handicap.
