Tigers rocked by Gale blow
Castleford Tigers have been rocked by the news they could have to do without half-back Luke Gale for the remainder of the season after an emergency appendix operation.
The 29-year-old playmaker has been a key figure for the Tigers this season, with Cas already securing the League Leaders’ Shield.
However Gale's season might well have been brought to an abrupt end after he felt pain on Monday night before having surgery on the Tuesday.
The Tigers are now facing up to the fact they may have to do without one of their star players for the remainder of the Super 8s and into the playoffs.
In a statement, Gale said: "I'm absolutely gutted to be facing surgery at this point in the season.
"This is a freak situation that could happen to anyone at any time and it's just really unfortunate for me that it has happened to me now at such a crucial point in the season.
"Rest assured I'll be doing all I can to aid my recovery with an aim to getting back on the pitch as soon as possible.
"In the meantime, I'll be 100 per cent behind my team-mates in our quest for the Grand Final to top off what has already been a fantastic year."
Castleford are 1.53 to go in and win the Super League Grand Final, while West Yorkshire rivals Leeds Rhinos are 2.50 to claim the title at Old Trafford next month.
