Michael Shenton has been backed for a World Cup role with England.

Castleford Tigers head coach Daryl Powell says his players are focused on achieving their ultimate goal of winning the Super League Grand Final.

The Tigers made history when they lifted the League Leaders' Shield earlier this month and Powell is eager for the club to make the year even more special with success at Old Trafford.

Castleford return to Super League action on Friday, when they travel to face the Huddersfield Giants.

"Winning the League Leaders is fantastic, but we have got another challenge ahead now and need to refocus. The target is for us to build on that success and go on and win the Super League Grand Final," said Powell, who has hailed the contributions made by centre-wing partnership Michael Shenton and Greg Eden.

"Greg and Michael have a special combination together and Michael has been superb in recent weeks. His ability to get the ball to Greg in all kind of situations has to be seen to be believed. It's unreal."

Powell has backed both players to continue their form during the remaining weeks of the league season, and believes the pair could play a key role for England in the upcoming Rugby League World Cup.

"Greg is back in the team after injury and has got to put some consistent football together between now and the end of the season," Powell added.

"In my opinion, they would both be outstanding for England in the World Cup."

England are available at 2.00 to win the World Cup later this year, with New Zealand 5001.00 and Australia 2.00.
