Tomkins enjoying pre-season
Wigan full back Sam Tomkins says the squad will relish the next stage of their preparations for the new season, following a focus on strength and fitness during recent months.
The Warrors are chasing success in 2018 following a trophy-less campaign this year, and Tomkins says he's looking forward to the return of the club's senior players as they aim to put the disappointment of recent months behind them.
"When the new year starts, the international boys return and it's more about the rugby. This past couple of months have been about fitness and strength, so it will be good to get the ball in our hands a little more in the new year," said Tomkins, who missed out on selection for England in the recent World Cup.
The Wigan full-back also noted that the players and coaches have worked hard to re-entrench the club's culture during the close-season.
"The coaching staff have put quite a big emphasis on the culture around the club, and what it is, because a lot of the young boys who came into the squad didn't really know much about that side of things," Tomkins added.
"So, we've revisited that, and it's probably something you need to do every two or three years. It's just a way to remind everyone what the culture of the club is, and what we want moving forward."
Wigan travel to face Salford Red Devils on Friday 2nd February in their first game of the 2018 Super League season.
The Warriors are 23.00 to win the 2018 Rugby League Grand Final and the Challenge Cup while Leeds Rhinos can be backed at 34.00 and Castleford Tigers at 26.00.
