Watkins switches his focus
Following victory in the Super League Grand Final with Leeds Rhinos, Kallum Watkins has switched focus to helping England to success in the World Cup.
Watkins was named as part of Wayne Bennett's squad for Australia earlier this week and will be aiming to tie down a place in the centres for the opening game against the Kangaroos on 27th October.
"Leeds is the main thing I've been focusing on and I've had England at the back of my mind. We've celebrated what a fantastic season it has been, but when the time comes I will be fully focused on the World Cup," said Watkins, who says that England will be setting their sights high for the tournament, despite failing to reach the final in the last three tournaments.
"The aim is to win the World Cup and we have got to produce our best performances out there.
"The positive with England is spending time together. I think that time is going to be crucial for us and we have got to work hard now towards the first game in Australia."
Leeds overcame the odds to beat Castleford Tigers in Saturday's Grand Final, and Watkins says that England must show the same belief if they are to be successful in the World Cup.
"Saturday was an example of that and how when the odds are against us and the pressure's off we can produce the goods," he said.
"It's the same for England, it is all about belief - believing in your team-mates, knowing the talent we've got."
England can be backed at 1/1 to win the World Cup, while they are 3/4 to finish as runners-up and 13/8 to be knocked out at the semi-final stage.
