Lancaster committed to Leinster

Stuart Lancaster has dismissed speculation linking him to Northampton Saints, insisting that he remains committed to Leinster.

The former England head coach has a contract with the Irish club until the end of the season, but his name has been mentioned as a possible successor to Jim Mallinder, whose 10 years spell in charge of the Saints came to an end last week.

I'm coaching a great team in two good competitions. That's all that's on my mind.

Lancaster said that he was focused entirely on his job with Leinster in the Pro 14 and the European Champions Cup and anything else was mere speculation.

He has said: "I'm contracted to Leinster until the end of next season. That's my situation. I've not spoken to any English club.

"It's almost an irrelevant point, really, because I've not spoken to anyone from any English club. They have not contacted me and I've not contacted them, so to have me linked is pure speculation from my point of view.

"As I have said consistently, it wasn't a hard decision to stay at Leinster and extend my contract by another year. I'm really enjoying what I'm doing, it fits my family. I'm coaching a great team in two good competitions. That's all that's on my mind."

Warren Gatland is another linked with a move to Franklin's Gardens.

Leinster are second in Conference B of the Pro 14 with eight wins from their 10 games so far. In addition they are in good shape in the European Champions Cup, looking set for a place in the knockout stages of the competition having won all their four games so far in Pool 3.

They are next in action on Boxing Day when they travel to face Munster in the Pro 14.

Leinster are 1.20 to win the Pro 14 Grand Final and they are 1.16 to win the European Champions Cup.

Ireland are 1.28 to win the Six Nations early in 2018.
