Duke undefeated and still on top
The Duke Blue Devils maintained their perfect start to the campaign last week with victories over Furman, Portland State, Texas and Florida, the latter three in the Phil Knight Invitational.
That and Arizona's spectacular free fall out of the rankings was enough to garner all 65 first play votes in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll ahead of Kansas, Michigan State, Villanova and Notre Dame.
Freshman Marvin Bagley III remains the story of the season so far as the youngster leads both Duke and the ACC in scoring at 22.3 per outing.
Bagley scored 34 in the overtime defeat of the Texas Longhorns before dropping in 30 against a useful Florida side.
The sample size is just eight games, but it would be stunning if the Arizona native wasn't the first player taken in the 2018 NBA Draft as such a dominating freshman is unusual.
Duke is in Bloomington this week as they play the Indiana Hoosiers at Assembly Hall in the ACC-Big Ten challenge.
It's two storied programs against each other, but the headline of the Conference match up this year is probably Thursday when the Spartans of Michigan State entertain the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame in East Lansing.
Michigan State has only the single loss to the Blue Devils while Notre Dame jumped into the Top 5 this past week following their wins over Chaminade, LSU and Wichita State.
The latter in the final of the Maui Invitational was a useful win as the Irish rallied from a 37-23 deficit to defeat the Shockers 67-66 to remain unbeaten.
Duke are 6.00 to win the NCAAB Championship this season.
