Tar Heels ease past Davidson
The North Carolina Tar Heels picked up their second victory in a row on Friday with an 85-75 victory over the Wildcats of Davidson at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte.
Joel Berry II led the way for the Tar Heels with 27 points and Luke Maye, who was heavily recruited by Davidson out of high school, added in 24 along with 17 rebounds.
North Carolina, 23.00 to win the NCAAB Championship, took the 28-27 lead at the 6:28 mark and did not trail the rest of the way to follow Wednesday's win over the Michigan Wolverines.
On Sunday the Tar Heels will host Tulane as they look to continue to recover from a 63-45 defeat to the Spartans of Michigan State over the weekend.
Over on the west coast, the USC Trojans are in action on Saturday when they face SMU. A loss to Texas A & M dropped USC to #14 in the Associated Press Top 25 this week, one place below the Tar Heels and the Trojans could use a solid victory to hold off the attention of No. 15 Gonzaga in the rankings.
The Zags crushed a decent Creighton side 91-74 on Friday evening in the sort of game pollsters pay attention to.
Next week USC will welcome in the Sooners of Oklahoma in the Hall of Fame Classic. Technically considered a neutral site the Staples Center in Los Angeles, the home of the Lakers and the Clippers, really isn't and the Trojans will be looking to take care of an Oklahoma side that have beaten the Oregon Ducks this season.
