Wichita State with lots to prove
The Wichita State Shockers have spent the past few years with excellent teams, good rankings and a complete lack of respect from the NCAA Tournament committee.
The under seeding of the Shockers has been nothing short of disgraceful and even when Wichita State received a top seed, the committee appear to make lie tough by placing the Kentucky Wildcats, as an 8th seed, in their region.
Deliberate or not, the optics were bad for all involved and wisely the Shockers decided to address the situation by improving their Conference affiliation.
Hence this year Wichita State will be in the American Athletic Conference rather than the Missouri Valley.
That will bring regular season match ups with the Cincinnati Bearcats, Connecticut Huskies, UCF Knights and SMU Mustangs among others.
Dominate the American as they did the MVC and the Shockers should regularly be seeded appropriately.
Ranked seventh in the Associated Press Preseason Top 25 Poll behind Duke, Michigan State, Arizona, Kansas, Kentucky and Kansas, Wichita State will open the season against UMKC on Friday and welcome in Charleston on Monday.
There's a trip to Hawaii for the Maui Invitational to take on Cal and a game against Marquette or VCU to follow.
Michigan and Notre Dame are on the other side of the bracket in Maui and should as expected the Shockers win through, the final will add another name match up.
Throw in a non-conference match up with Baylor and there should be more than enough quality on the Wichita State resume this season to answer any questions that the NCAA Tournament committee may have.
