Cougars and Huskies clash
The Washington State Cougars are a win away from playing the USC Trojans in the Pac 12 Championship game at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara.
However, the victory will need to come at the Husky Stadium in Seattle in the Apple Cup when the 14th ranked Cougars take on the No. 15 Washington Huskies.
Win and they're in is the simple scenario for Washington State, while a loss will send Stanford to face USC instead.
The Cougars have already beaten the Trojans this season, a 30-27 triumph at Martin Stadium in Pullman. In many ways the victory was the most important of the Mike Leach era and one that brought the program to the attention of the nation.
Unfortunately for Washington State, they were unable to maintain the moment losing two of their next four, both on the road to Cal and Arizona.
A win over Stanford in early November did however giver the Cougars the all-important tiebreaker with the Cardinals and will send Washington State to Northern California for a rematch with USC.
Standing in the way are the Huskies, whose loss to Stanford now looms large. Unable to compete for the national title, Washington would like nothing better than to knock off the Cougars and deny their rival.
Curiously both teams come into the game having defeated Utah last time out. The Utes have lost six of seven, but play a punishing game that really beats up on their opponent.
Washington State defeated Utah 33-25 at the Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City two weeks ago, while Washington had to rally late to squeak past the visitors last Saturday.
That sets up an interesting balancing act. The Huskies are at home, but not as rested as the Cougars.
