Kiffin the story once more
Tuesday the college football scene was all about Florida Atlantic University's head coach Lane Kiffin as he agreed to a 10-year contract.
Kiffin has been a controversial figure throughout his career, but there is no doubt that the man can coach the offensive side of the ball as he showed, leading the Owls to a 50-3 rout of the Akron Zips.
FAU crushed Akron as quarterback Jason Driskel connected on 19-of-25 for 270 yards and two touchdowns and running back Devin Singletary scored three times while amassing 124 yards on 26 carries.
Driskel also scored twice on the ground with 67 yards on 13 carries as the Owls rushed for 312 yards on the evening.
Dominant in Conference USA where they were unbeaten, FAU had more trouble when they stepped outside of their Conference at the start of the campaign losing to Navy, Wisconsin and Buffalo.
However the Owls grew in confidence throughout the season and with a strong recruiting class expected, FAU will be a very interesting opponent when they travel to Norman in Oklahoma to take on the Sooners at the start of the season next year.
Kiffin was overlooked for any of the open jobs the past month despite leading the Owls to an impressive turnaround.
It seems likely that a major school will come calling next year, even with the huge extension, if Kiffin continues to build the program.
Should the former Oakland Raiders, Tennessee and USC head coach resist, and it would be appropriately within character to be contrarian, FAU could become a serious factor next season especially with Kiffin's ability to recruit talent.
Alabama Crimson Tide are 2.80 to win the NCAAF title with Clemson Tigers 3.25 and Oklahoma Sooners priced at 4.50.
