Predators defeat Stars in Dallas
For the second time this season the Nashville Predators had little difficulty with the Dallas Stars as they eased to a 5-2 victory over their hosts at the American Airlines Center on Tuesday.
Comfortable 4-1 winners over the Stars at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville in the fourth game of the season, the Predators arrived in Dallas eight weeks later to win by the same three-goal margin.
Kevin Fiala, Cody McLeod, Pontus Aberg, Kyle Turris and Calle Jarnkrok were all on target for the visitors who took a 5-0 advantage in the second period before allowing two goals in the third to the Stars.
The victory pushed the Predators, 13.50 to win the Stanley Cup, into first place in the Central Division a point ahead of the Winnipeg jets and the St Louis Blues.
On Friday Nashville return home to entertain the Vegas Golden Knights before embarking on a three-game swing in the Northwest against the Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers and the Calgary Flames.
Meanwhile, the Blues were also in winning form as they got the better of the Canadiens at the Bell Centre in Montreal.
Brayden Schenn registered a hat-trick for the visitors including the winner at 12:11 of the third period. St Louis head home to the Scottrade Center on Thursday to welcome in the Dallas Stars before a brief visit to Detroit to clash with the Red Wings.
Detroit was the destination for the Jets on Tuesday but, unlike the Predators and the Blues, Winnipeg could not record the victory as the Red Wings ran out 5-1 winners at the Little Caesars Arena. Despite the loss the Jets, along with Nashville and St Louis, are starting to gain a little daylight over the chasing pack.
