Demon duo closing on return
Melbourne have been boosted by the news key forwards Ben Brown and Sam Weideman should be available for selection sooner rather than later after overcoming injury issues.
Prized new recruit Brown has yet to make an appearance for his new club after making the switch from North Melbourne during last year's Trade Period.
He was forced to undergo knee surgery in February, while Weideman has been on the sidelines after suffering stress fractures in his leg during pre-season.
However both will play in the VFL this weekend with a view to playing AFL football in the coming weeks.
The Demons have got the new season off to an electric start and having both players back available is an added boost for coach Simon Goodwin.
"They’ve both done an extraordinary job in their rehab to get themselves in the condition they’re in," Goodwin told reporters.
"They’ll probably both play three quarters. The good thing is we’ll play them together and start to build some chemistry between the two.
"Whether that’s one, two, three weeks, we’re not sure (when they will be in the AFL), but we’ll be guided by (Darren Burgess) and his fitness team. But they’re going to have to fight their way in."
The Demons could go 4-0 if they beat Geelong on Sunday and Goodwin says he will welcome any selection headaches that come his way.
"If we get to that situation where they’re all (in-form) then we’ll find a way as a team to get as many of them in as possible," he added.
"If it’s we want to play two talls, then it will be the best two talls that are playing the best footy at that time."
The Demons are priced at 4/1 to win the AFL grand final.
