Dockers starlet ready to be a marked man
Fremantle starlet Caleb Serong says he is staying focused on things he can control and is not worrying about being a marked man in the 2021 AFL campaign.
Serong had an outstanding debut season for the Dockers in 2021 when making 14 appearances. He collected at least 20 possessions in six of those games, and won the Rising Star award by nine votes.
So after a stellar campaign, Serong is no longer an unknown quantity and no doubt the opposition will pay closer attention to him in the new campaign.
The 20-year-old is not concerned about that though and is just staying focused on his own game.
"You’ve got to prepare for that," Serong said. "For me, I’m focusing on what I can do and what I can control. That’s my preparation and how I go about training and prepare for games.
"At the moment I am giving myself the best opportunity to perform. It’s just about continuing to do that heading into round one and hopefully the rest of the season."
Serong is also looking forward to getting more game time alongside Adam Cerra and Andrew Brayshaw in midfield when they play West Coast in Saturday's practice match.
"We haven’t really had a chance to play with each other too much as just us three in the midfield," he added.
"That’s pretty exciting. We’ve been looking forward to that opportunity when it came. On the weekend it was really cool to play with them as well as Lloyd Meek.
"He played really well in the ruck. We are all 21 and under so hopefully it’s exciting times for Freo in the next few years."
The Dockers are priced at 40/1 to win the AFL grand final.
