Eagles rule out Yeo for round one
West Coast Eagles coach Adam Simpson says Elliot Yeo will not make round one of the 2021 AFL campaign but should be available soon after.
The midfielder is going through a frustrating spell in the treatment room as he battles back from osteitis pubis, which has bothered him since the end of last season.
The 27-year-old is making progress, but it is slow progress, and it would appear that the season opener against the Gold Coast will come too soon.
"He won't be round one, but he'll hopefully be in the early part of the year," Simpson told AFL.com.au. "If he's not training with the main group now it's probably not going to happen.
"With the pre-season, you used to start in November so you'd have this chronic load where you could miss a few weeks and then just get back into it.
"You miss a few weeks now and you've got to rebuild your fitness because you're not quite there yet."
There is some good news though as premiership defender Liam Duggan has impressed in pre-season and is in line to step into midfield and fill the void.
"We drafted him as a midfielder (but) he now has the attributes of a defender … there's a good balance there and he's actually improved our midfield," Simpson added.
"His evolution the last three or four weeks has been really, really good. We'll give him every chance and either way he's in our side. It's just whether it's midfield or down back."
The Eagles are priced at 12/1 to win the AFL grand final.
