McDonald secures Carlton spot
Carlton have thrown a lifeline to former Melbourne player Oscar McDonald, who has won the final spot on the Blues' list for the 2021 AFL campaign.
McDonald, who made 81 appearances over six seasons for the Demons before being delisted at the end of 2020, impressed after joining Carlton as a train-on player in pre-season.
The forward cemented his spot with a fine performance during Carlton's 26-point loss to St Kilda in last Thursday night's AAMI Community Series clash.
He kicked two goals, registered 13 disposals and took six marks, while also rotating through the ruck throughout the game.
So the Blues are in doubt that McDonald is an excellent addition to their list for the campaign ahead.
"Oscar has fit in really well with our backline group over the pre-season and we look forward to seeing him continue to strengthen those connections as the year evolves," Carlton's list manager Nick Austin said.
"As we also saw on Thursday night, Oscar is also able to play other roles across the ground which gives us some flexibility across the board.
"It is never an easy situation for a train-on player, however from the moment Oscar walked into the football club late last year he has done everything possible to earn a spot on the list.
"He already has six years of experience at the elite level, has a great work ethic and above all is a great person who will be a welcome addition to the playing group."
Carlton are priced at 500/1 to win the AFL grand final.
