Arteta's Arsenal take on Crystal Palace on Monday

Mikel Arteta admits Arsenal need to show more of a cutting edge if they want to challenge in the Premier League this season.

The Gunners return to action after the international break on Monday when they play host to Crystal Palace and are 4/7 for the win, with the Eagles 5/1 and the draw 3/1.

Something we can do better and improve in our efficiency in front of goal.

Vieira reunion

Palace are now managed by former Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira, who Arteta has described as a "legend" ahead of the game as the Spaniard attempts to carve out his own legacy at the Emirates Stadium.

It has been a rocky ride for Arteta but there has been an improvement in results recently, Arsenal winning all three of their games in September as Arteta scooped the Premier League manager of the month award.

However, the Gunners' first game in October saw them held to a goalless draw by Brighton, the fourth time in seven Premier League games this season in which they have failed to score.

Only bottom of the table Norwich have registered fewer goals than Arsenal's tally of five and Arteta says it is an area of concern that he's tried to address during the international break.

Lack of goals a concern

"There have been many areas [of focus], that is one of them obviously," he said.

"The players we have available here to work because of internationals is very limited but it is certainly something we can do better and improve in our efficiency in front of goal, and when we get that balance right it will obviously help us to win more game."

Meanwhile, Arteta revealed Gabriel Martinelli is a doubt for the visit of Palace but had no other fresh injury concerns ahead of some of his squad returning from international duty.
