John Aloisi is back in the A-League, after being unveiled as Brisbane Roar's new coach for next season.

The former Socceroo was sacked as Melbourne Heart coach in December 2013 and this is his first senior coaching job since then.

He has spent the past three months as the development coach of Melbourne Victory's National Youth League and National Premier League sides.

Aloisi takes over the reins from Frans Thijssen, who had been appointed as interim coach until the end of the season when championship-winning Mike Mulvey was dismissed last November.

John brings to the Roar a passionate understanding of Australian football and the A-League.

Thijssen stepped in after Brisbane lost five of their first six games, but though he was able to guide the Roar into the finals that was only on a technicality. The Roar would have finished seventh in the table, but Perth Glory were banned from the finals and placed seventh for breaching the salary cap.

Brisbane lost in the first round of the finals to Adelaide United and failed to make it past the group stage of the Asian Champions League.

The Roar areĀ 1.83 to win the 2015-16 Grand Final.

Aloisi, who will take over from the Dutchman after the friendly against Spanish club Villarreal next Wednesday, said he was proud to be joining the club.

"The club has defined success in the first 10 years of the A-League and I am determined to ensure the high standards the Roar players, members, sponsors and supporters have come to expect continue under my stewardship," he said.

Roar Chairman Chris Fong said: "John brings to the Roar a passionate understanding of Australian football and the A-League. I am impressed by his determination to succeed and the fresh focus he will bring to the club."

Aloisi had just a 20 per cent win record during his 39 games in charge of Melbourne Heart - who have since been rebranded as Melbourne City.

Meanwhile, Australia areĀ 2.00 to win the Women's World Cup.
