Hasenhuttl full of optimism
Ralph Hasenhuttl believes Southampton are strong enough to upset Leicester in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley on Sunday.
Southampton's hopes of enjoying a successful Premier League campaign faded away dramatically during the second half of the term.
They sat sixth in the top-flight after beating Liverpool on 4 January but now find themselves down in 14th after picking up just two victories from the following 14 games.
It's been a hugely disappointing run since the turn of the year but the FA Cup has offered some reason to be cheerful.
The south coast club are yet to concede a goal in the competition and are 90 minutes away from reaching the final for the first time since 2003.
Hasenhuttl feels Saints are more than capable of coming out on top at the national stadium if they approach the clash with the correct mentality.
“I hope we see the ‘cup team’. This is a team that hasn’t conceded one goal in the competition so far. This is the basics, the fundamental of being successful and having a chance to go to the next round," Hasenhuttl said.
“We, very early, started speaking about how important the cup is for us. For smaller clubs like we are it is always good to have this target in your mind. When we are hungry and we know what we have to hunt for, then we are strong. This is what we expect on the weekend."
Southampton are 11/4 to beat Leicester and 12121/1 to win the FA Cup outright.
