Dembele signed for Barcelona in 2017 from Borussia Dortmund for 105 million euros and his contract with the team expires next summer.

The 24-year-old has made 118 appearances in all competitions for Barcelona, scoring 30 times. Dembele has also scored four goals in 27 games for his national team France.

The forward is recovering from knee surgery after he picked up an injury when playing for his country at Euro 2020 and, without him, Barcelona have taken seven points from their first three games of the season.

Dembele to step up

After the loss of Lionel Messi and Antoine Greizmann this summer, Dembele will be expected to form much of the attacking threat for the club when he returns, alongside new signing Memphis Depay.

Laporta says Dembele is close to a return to action and all parties hope he will be able to show his best form as soon as possible.

"The relationship with Ousmane is very good, he feels loved and we want him to stay. He's told me that he's really looking forward to playing again and wearing Barcelona's shirt."

"With everyone's work, we'll get this player, who has a lot of quality, back playing and playing consistently. There's a plan at the club for Ousmane to show his talent and quality."
