Manchester City are set to make a number of changes against Wycombe

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has confirmed he will make multiple changes to the team ahead of the EFL Cup clash with Wycombe Wanderers, claiming the match is a "good opportunity" for players in the academy.

City are 1/14 to defeat Wycombe, who can be backed at 25/1 to win with the draw in 90 minutes at the Etihad 11/1.

Injury worries mounting

Ahead of the third-round tie, Guardiola confirmed Rodri, Aymeric Laporte, John Stones and Oleksandr Zinchenko will all be sidelined, while there are also doubts surrounding the fitness of Ilkay Gundogan.

Defenders Joao Cancelo and Ruben Dias are also set to be rested.

As a result, fans can expect to see a number of youngsters given a run out against League One outfit Wycombe, who beat Exeter and Stevenage in the first and second rounds.

It's a good opportunity for the academy - that's why they are there.

And they go into the game with Wycombe having won three of their first five Premier League matches this term, as well as their opening Champions League group assignment against Leipzig.

Speaking about the club's current absences, Guardiola said: "Some players might rest for the games we have coming up ahead of us and yeah a few players from the academy are going to play.

"We have John, Aymeric, Oleks, Rodri - I think Gundo - all of them injured.

"We will see after Sunday to make a good selection - it's a good opportunity for the academy - that's why they are there."
