Brian Flynn was appointed as the new manager of Doncaster Rovers on Thursday afternoon and immediately set his sights on the League One title this season.

The 57-year-old former Swansea, Wrexham and Wales Under-21 manager had been placed in caretaker charge along with 33-year-old skipper Rob Jones when Dean Saunders departed the Keepmoat Stadium to take over at Championship Wolverhampton Wanderers last week.

And, despite chairman John Ryan receiving a host of applications for the position, he has opted to stick with Flynn on a full-time basis, while Jones will now take on a player-coaching role at the South Yorkshire outfit.

Rovers, who are 5/1 to win League One, are currently second in the table, four points clear of third-placed Brentford, and Flynn has revealed the target for the remainder of the season.

In the words of the chairman, the aim for this season is not only promotion but going up as Champions as well.

He told the club's website: "I am delighted to have received the news from the Chairman and Board of Directors this afternoon. Continuity is key, I've been here six months and in-charge ten days and nothing is broken so nothing needs to change.

"When you walk into a dressing room, you can tell there is success in the air, and that's the feeling I got when I came down to the training Ground at Cantley Park. I could sense that the players were hungry for success.

"In the words of the chairman, the aim for this season is not only promotion but going up as Champions as well - that positive attitude has come from the Chairman and the Board and we will try and carry that out."

Flynn and Jones guided Rovers to a 2-1 win against Stevenage last weekend and they will hope the weather does not postpone their first game at the helm as permanent incumbents when Leyton Orient visit the Keepmoat on Saturday. Rovers are 19/20 to win, the O's are 16/5 and the draw can be backed at 27/10.
