Jota eyes proper title fight
Liverpool forward Diogo Jota says he is ready to help Liverpool reclaim their Premier League crown in the upcoming season.
Jurgen Klopp's men were well off the pace for most of last season as they ended the campaign third, though they can be backed at 7/2 to lift just their second Premier League title.
Champions lose their way
The Reds, following a near-invincible 2019-20 season, were plagued with several injuries which hampered their progress, particularly defensively.
We want to go and give a proper fight for the title,Diogo Jota
Star centre-back Virgil van Dijk missed the majority of the season following a rash challenge from Jordan Pickford in October's Merseyside derby, while fitness issues continued to trouble England defender Joe Gomez.
Jota makes fast start
Jota was actually one of the few success stories of last season following his surprise £35m move from Wolves.
The 24-year-old scored 13 goals in 30 appearances in all competitions as he slotted into the Reds line-up with ease, as he, Roberto Firmino, Mo Salah, and Sadio Mane were nicknamed the "Fab Four".
However, he also suffered with injury problems and missed more than two months of the season with a knee issue.
Third isn't enough
Now back in pre-season training following a summer spent with Portugal at Euro 2020, Jota believes Liverpool will challenge for the title.
"We will give it a go, of course like always," he told the club website. "Last season wasn't very good for us - we still finished third but it's not what we want. We want to go and give a proper fight for the title obviously."
