Christian Horner has praised Max Verstappen's focus

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has praised the "straightforward" approach of Max Verstappen, who he believes is more than capable of handling the pressure of the F1 title battle.

Verstappen currently sits just two points behind Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton in what promises to be one of the tightest Drivers' Championship battles in years, with the Dutchman priced at 6/5 to end 2021 with his first world title, while Hamilton is 4/6.

Chance to end title drought

Success would also represent Red Bull's first title triumph since 2013, and with the Austrian outfit also challenging Mercedes for the Constructors' Championship, it promises to be a successful year.

I don't think I've ever met a driver so motivated.

Horner is certainly under no illusions regarding the role Verstappen has played in Red Bull's success this season and he has praised the straightforward approach of the 24-year-old, who he has worked alongside since 2016.

"Max is probably one of the most straightforward drivers I've worked with because he's binary in his approach," Horner told Channel 4. "He appreciates absolute openness and honesty. He doesn't give a lot away to the public, he's quite a private individual.

"He's super-hungry and so motivated, I don't think I've ever met a driver so motivated."

Pressure no problem for Verstappen

With just seven races of the season remaining, every slip between now and the end of the year could prove pivotal.

However, Horner is convinced Verstappen can handle the pressure, warning Hamilton that his driver will not be distracted by any mind games.

"We still have seven races and we need a lot of points for both drivers to be able to catch up," Horner added.

"Max has the ability to deal with the pressure. He is not distracted by anything, the psychological games leave him cold."
