Marko targeting Austria points haul
Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko says it is likely his team will perform better in the two Austrian races after Sunday's French Grand Prix.
The F1 entourage moves to the Circuit Paul Ricard this weekend where Red Bull star man and championship frontrunenr Max Verstappen can be backed to win the race at 4/5 with his nearest challenger Lewis Hamilton 13/8.
It is shaping up to be one of the most exciting F1 seasons in living memory with only four points separating Verstappen and Hamilton at the top.
A dreadful two races in Monaco and Baku saw Mercedes only pick up seven points overall with Red Bull duly taking advantage at the top.
The Dutchman will attempt to win his first-ever Drivers' Championship and stop Hamilton claiming what would be a record-breaking eighth crown.
France offers the next test for Red Bull – a circuit where the race has been dominated by Mercedes and Hamilton since it was brought back from the cold in 2018.
And, Marko admits his team may have to simply pick up whatever they can get in France before heading to the Red Bull Ring in Austria for a home double-header.
"It's going to be very close between the two," Marko told RTL. "Le Castellet is a circuit with its very own characteristics. It's an atypical surface that doesn't exist anywhere else. It all depends on the condition of the day and the temperature.
"I hope he [Verstappen] manages two wins in Austria, that seems more realistic."
So far in 2021, Verstappen has won twice in races at Imola and Monaco.
Hamilton took the chequered flag in Bahrain, Portugal and France but a disappointing seventh in Monaco followed by a pointless Baku drive sees him trail in the championship, with Verstappen's team mate Sergio Perez winning on the Azerbaijan street circuit.
