Vettel confident ahead of French GP
Sebastian Vettel believes he has turned his season around and is confident he can put up a big show in his Aston Martin at this weekend’s French Grand Prix.
But Vettel’s fifth in Monaco will have lifted spirits, particularly as the four-time World champion built on that performance by gaining second spot last time in Azerbaijan after he finished behind Sergio Perez’s Red Bull in an action-packed race in Baku.
The Aston Martin had struggled for pace early in the season but Vettel is now off the mark and his tally of 28 points from the two races has left him ninth in the standings.
It is tight at the top with Max Verstappen, who has claimed two victories this season, on 105 points, four ahead of world champion Lewis Hamilton, who has three wins under his belt this term.
But with three races in as many weeks - this week’s race at the Circuit Paul Ricard will be finished by a double header in Austria - Vettel believes he has strong foundations on which to build.
He said: "I think we're coming into this race on a high after the success of Baku.
"There's been time to celebrate, but now I’m fully focused on maintaining our momentum in France.
"We've brought home a decent points haul in Monaco and Azerbaijan, and we need to keep up the consistent form in what is proving to be an extremely close midfield battle this year."
