Blackbird Powers home to win
Blackbird Power caused a boilover on Sunday night when winning the $12,000 C.U.B Quality in Devonport but it came as no surprise to trainer-driver Mark Yole.
Scooterwillrev was the hot fancy and the one to beat heading into the race, and Blackbird Power did just that when proving to be too strong in the closing stages.
Despite his big odds, Yole was feeling confident and was delighted to get the job done in a mile rate of 1m 58.9 seconds.
"I was really happy with his run, I thought he would run a nice race and he did," Yole told reporters after the race.
"He was dropping back from the stands where he has been losing a lot of ground easy and finishing with them so the change in the conditions and a drop in distance was a big help."
Blackbird Power has not won since July of last year and that too was a narrow victory over Scooterwillrev.
It was also his first win in five attempts at Devonport and made even more special by the fact the eight-year-old has had his fair share of injury issues.
"He has had a bad quarter crack that has taken a few months to get on top off, so he has had a few issues along the way," Yole added.
As for the next assignment, Yole says he will let this win sink in before making a decision.
"I am a little undecided, there is a race in Launceston next week that I may look at, and there is the Launceston Mile the following week so I will see how he pulls up and discuss the options with his owners," he said.
