General Dodge salutes again
General Dodge put his explosive speed to good use once again when taking out the AB Golden Reign Free For All at Melton on Saturday night.
The eight-year-old has been plagued by injury and illness meaning he has been restricted to just 19 career starts.
However when he does make it to the track, the Mick Chircop-trained pacer knows how to win and has now done just that on 14 occasions.
General Dodge impressed with a first-up win at Geelong two weeks ago and backed that up with another win last night.
His explosive speed was on show once again as he flew down the home straight to beat Star Galleria by 1.6metres, much to the delight of reinsman Jason Lee.
"It is a shame that he hasn't raced more, but all credit goes to the team behind him that they have got him here now," Lee said.
"They've been through a pretty tough road so it hurts no one more than them. I'm just very much enjoying just being a very small part."
Lee hailed the versatility of General Dodge and also says he is the fastest horse he has ever driven.
"From point-to-point speed, I think he's the quickest horse I've sat behind," Lee added.
"Obviously, I've been lucky enough to drive some really nice horses over the years - trotters and pacers - and I don't think I've quite driven one with the point-to-point speed (of General Dodge).
"I always said Chilli Palmer was electric one night when I drove him. He had gears upon gears and this guy is every bit of him, if not more."
