Cheltenham Gold Cup hope Cue Card has been ruled out of the Festival due to injury, with trainer Colin Tizzard hoping his horse will be fit for a Grand National tilt.

Cue Card won the Ryanair Chase at Cheltenham just under 12 months ago and had been expected to challenge hard for the Gold Cup this time around.

He hasn't got any better and you can't be going to Cheltenham 90 per cent.

However, Tizzard has confirmed that his charge is still struggling with a slight problem and will not risk him at the National Hunt showpiece meeting, instead looking ahead to a potential Grand National outing at Aintree later in the year.

"Unfortunately he has pulled muscles behind and he won't be running at the Cheltenham Festival," Tizzard said.

"We first noticed it last week. It was only a small thing then and it is only small now, but we cantered him this morning and he is still not right.

"He hasn't got any better and you can't be going to Cheltenham 90 per cent."

In the absence of Cue Card, Bobs Worth isĀ 2.62 to win the Gold Cup for a second successive year, with Silviniaco ContiĀ 4.00 and Harry Topper 778.00.

Meanwhile, Tizzard was remaining cautious over Cue Card running in the Grand National, adding: "We need to get him right first."
