Inglis treble helps Rabbitohs win
Greg Inglis lit up ANZ Stadium with a hat-trick of tries as South Sydney Rabbitohs demolished Brisbane Broncos 42-16.
The defeat effectively leaves the visitors facing a second consecutive season without making a finals appearance.
But for South Sydney, who are many pundits' choice to win the premiership this year, the game was evidence of Inglis' ability to change a game. The Rabbitohs are 2.00 to win the grand final.
They started poorly, conceding an 11th-minute try to Justin Hodges, before Inglis came up with two tries in the space of eight minutes. His second was one of the best tries of the season as he sprinted 20 metres to take a kick from Adam Reynolds and then exchanged passes with Sam Burgess before touching down.
Chris McQueen and Lote Tuqiri then scored within three minutes of each other to set the home side firmly on the way to victory. The Broncos had the first word after the interval, with Sam Thaiday crossing, but Inglis then completed his treble.
Luke Keary and Kirisome Auva'a went over in the final nine minutes, with Jack Reed countering for the visitors. Reynolds landed six goals for South Sydney, Ben Lowe adding the final goal.
Taking some of the shine off the victory was the potential absence of Ben Te'o for the rest of the season. The back-rower was one of three Rabbitohs players charged for wrestling-style offences, and will miss four weeks even with an early guilty plea.
South Sydney are 2.00 conceding a six-point start against North Queensland.
