Cameron Norrie eager to finish the job

Britain’s Cameron Norrie is confident he can finish the job at the San Diego Open after he saw off top seed Andrey Rublev in the semi-finals.

The 26-year-old is 10/11 to get the better of second-seed Casper Ruud in Sunday’s final while his Norwegian opponent is 10/11 to triumph.

It's such a big win for me.

British number two Norrie, who won the Acapulco Open earlier this year, lost the first set 6-3 but came back to win the next two 6-3 6-4 to triumph over the player ranked fifth in the world, in what was the Brit’s sixth semi-final of the year.

In winning, he was able to gain revenge for their last meeting in the St Petersburg Open, when Norrie was dispatched in straight sets.

Ruud booked his place in the final by beating Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov and also saw off former world number one Andy Murray in an earlier round.

Confidence high for Norrie

But while the tenth-ranked player in the world will be no pushover, Norrie said victory over Rublev is a huge boost for his confidence before the California final.

He said: "It's such a big win for me. It's definitely a match that I'm going to remember for a long time.

"To beat someone like Andrey, who I respect and he's one of my favorite players on the tour, it's huge to me, and also to get revenge after he beat me easy last time.

"It’s nice to see that I improved a little bit and got him this time. It was a great match."
